Captain Dana A. Boardman, DC

Would describe myself and skills as a passionate Big Game Fishing Captain with a prized catch record, strong background in mechanics, and an ongoing contributing fishing technologist to the International heavy tackle industry. Also a third generation National Board Certified Doctor of Chiropractic licensed in the states of Hawaii and California, and the ninth Holistic Healthcare Doctor in my family.

During the first two and a half decades of life, grew up fishing and boating with my family. Sailed to Hawaii from Ventura in 1986. And then, during the past three and a half decades have ventured worldwide as a professional captain, co-captain, crew, and adventure guide onboard many epic Big Game Fishing vessels specializing in 1000 plus pound Black and Blue Marlin, and have experienced what most folks can only dream about. Capturing or tagging numerous marlin over 1000 pounds and many giant tuna, along with some world record catches, and many tournament wins.

This passion empowered fishing the richest heavy-tackle hotspots Globally, co-producing lasting results throughout the profession, and ultimately trading vast real-world knowledge with many of the top Big Game Fishing captains, crews, anglers and Industry Leaders. Some of them legends. A few to name are:

Bart Miller, Gene Vanderhoek, Kevin and Elizabete Nakamaru, Bill and Greg "Muddy" Edwards, Luke and Kelly Fallon, Roddy and Susan Hays, Ron Sally and Bo Jenyns, Hamish Burns, John-Florence-Randy-Keoni and the Llanes Family, Richard "Sadu" Frehm, Peter and Teddy Hoogs, Carlton Arai, Lincoln Ahlo, Dominic Fagundes, Doug Haight, Scott Davidson, Kelly and Jocelyn Everette, McGrew Rice, Robert "Haole Boy" Bean, Norm and Darrin Isaacs, Boyd DeCoito, Mike Berman, Ian Harveyson, Geoff and Chris Ferguson, Ross Finlayson, Darren “Biggles” Haydon, Peter Bristow, Dennis “Brazakka” Wallace, Laurie Woodbridge, Billy Billson, Laurie Wright, Dave Pemberton, Jim Dalling, Billy Fairburn, Tim “the Bream” Pollard, Andy Dow, Peter B. Wright, Emmett "Mutt" Coble, Scott Levin, Gary Stuve, Eddie “Cookie” Murray and Paul Murray, Don Tyson, Stewart and Nikki Campbell, Barky Garnsey, Charles Perry, Guy and Gillian Harvey, Matthias Henningsen, Alan Card, Bubba Carter, Joseph Franck, Bubba Munsch, Chris Choy, Steve "Stymie" and Tracy Epstein, Matt Bowman, Kyle Vanatta, David Borges, Mike and Jason Holtz, Nick and Alex Durham; Dr. Jay Meyer – his parents John & Marjorie, and my Father.

Also blessed with an in-depth friendship with Captain Les Thuet during the final two decades of his fiery 98 years. Les was the captain who caught Ted Naftzger his first billfish, was a pioneer in developing kite-fishing for Giant Pacific Bluefin tuna nearly a century ago, an early builder of charter boats in Avalon with his brother Howard, later they developed long range live-a-board fishing charters in the Sea of Cortez onboard their 100 ft. vessel m/v MALIBU, and he also created the water taxi service in Avalon. Les grew up as a friend and teenage sidekick of Romer Zane Grey, the eldest son of novelist and iconic angler Zane Grey. As a quiet achiever born in 1917 and raised on Santa Catalina Island, Les moved to Kona, Hawaii in the 1970’s and one day he said to me, “I am the only member of the Tuna Club who wasn’t one of them.” Membership is mostly granted to men of privilege and significant means. Eventually, a membership was awarded to Les after many decades of selfless work at the Tuna Club of Avalon, and for his leadership within the Avalon community, the birthplace of offshore rod and reel Sportfishing and fish conservation practices that began on June 1, 1898.

Have operated Big Game Fishing vessels and sailboats from 30’ to 75’ in the following ocean realms: Hawaii, Australia, Madeira, California, Mexico, the East Coast US, Gulf of Mexico, Cape Verde Islands, Azores, and Mozambique. Navigated the Pacific, including a Trans-Pacific Ocean crossing, the Atlantic Ocean, the Intracoastal Waterway, Lake Okeechobee, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Coral Sea.
